Welcome to Art Toronto 2010, the 11th edition of the Toronto International Art Fair (TIAF).
Every year the show continues to grow, evolve and expand its reach to new participants and audiences. This year TIAF features an exciting line-up of 107 galleries from 13 countries, 19 cultural organizations and 30 art publications who offer you the best and most remarkable visual experience. Today's visual art is reaching a world larger than ever, it is crossing unimaginable borders and is challenging many conventional forms of expression and artistic language. The works you will see this year at Art Toronto certainly share the same artistic language of the many trends and styles in the contemporary art scene around the world. I encourage you to visit each of the galleries in the show, participate in talks and docent tours and explore our special exhibits and artist projects. This is the perfect time to engage in conversation, ask questions, get advice and take advantage of expertise from international galleries and curators.
To the galleries and their artists, I extend our most sincere gratitude and warm welcome. Our very special thanks to Jeremy Laing, Alex McLeod, Richard Rhodes, Catherine Dean, Nicholas Brown, Meeka Walsh, Robert Enright, Jon Davies and to all of our cultural partners for their enthusiasm in creating and coordinating an array of spectacular projects for all of us to enjoy.
To the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Opening Night Preview Volunteer committee and event chairs Stephen Grant and Deborah Scott, our special thanks and warmest appreciation. I would like to thank Alicia Vandermeer and Adrienne Maniezzo for their efforts in making the benefit a success. In addition, I thank David Moos and the AGO Acquisition committee for allowing Art Toronto to be a part of the growth of the AGO contemporary art collection. A very special thanks to Matthew Teitlebaum for his unwavering support over the last 11 years.
Our most grateful thanks to our presenting sponsor, RBC Wealth Management, to AXA Art Insurance - our official art insurer and to BMW - our official vehicle partner. We also thank all of our partners for their significant contribution and support.
Finally, I am very happy to welcome to the Art Toronto team Jennie Biltek and Susannah Rosenstock who joined earlier this spring. They are both talented, bright, dedicated and their contribution has made a difference. I would also like to acknowledge the rest of our hard working team: Maggie Rust, for valuable work in assisting our exhibitors and her effort on our social media platform; Judy Merry, for her diligence and professionalism in coordinating TIAF operations and Allan Wong our graphic designer for his hard work, patience and creativity. It will not suffice without mentioning Steven Levy, our Senior VP for his good nature, encouragement and valuable advice. To each and every one, my simple but truly heartfelt thanks and recognition.
I hope you will enjoy the excitement of Art Toronto and share in the efforts and passion of the exhibitors, curators and artists at this year's Fair - welcome to Art Toronto 2010!
