Observing curves and lines of the built spaces which he photographs, Jerónimo Heitor Coelho offers us a particular point of vue on the photography of architecture. "Visit the shapes", this week on Face to Face.
Photographing engineering and architectural works to produce a book representing forty years of a construction company is what led Portuguese photographer Jerónimo Heitor Coelho to traveling the world in 2007.
Since then he has photographed textures, saliences, lines and curves from several constructions.
Over the last years his work deserved many distinctions but it was in 2007 that his career was recognized with the QEP Certificate (Qualified European Photographer) in the architectural area. He also won the awardfrom APF, Distinguished Photographer and Specialized Photographer.
The interest in photography started when he was a teenager in high school. He had a first experience at school in a photo lab and he never looked back.
His passion for the image was so intense that he started developing his own photos at home in an improvised black and white lab.
With the evolution of photography Jerónimo decided, in 1988, to invest in a photographic equipment shop in Évora, where he lives.
His commercial work absorbed him so much that, it was only after 12 years had passed, after a seminar where he met photographer Salvador Martinez, did he once again dedicate himself to art.
The last 2 decades Heitor participated as instructor for several workshops and specific training programs, such as illumination or image treatment.
He has been awarded in Portugal, Belgium and Japan.
His works were particularly enhanced with photographic creations in 2007, namely the book "Strings... and Challenges", from the APPACDM (a Portuguese Association for Mental Diseases), that represented his contribution to the support of children suffering from mental problems. The same purposes were achieved with the publication of "The Évora Court of Justice - Barahona Palace" ; in 2008.
Also in 2007, some of his photos were selected for the honor collection of the Professional Photographers Association.
Despite his devotion to photography, Jerónimo Heitor Coelho maintains his own company "JB Photo" in the centre of Évora. There, among other things, he manages the areas of Production Quality and Professional Photography.
