From November 7th to December 7th 2009, the 8th edition of the Bamako Encounters will take place in Bamako, Mali. This event became indispensable over the years and this encounters have raised awareness of many African photographers and videographers.

During a month, hundreds of photographers will be exhibited in the major and popular locations of the city and they will attract professionals from around the world but especially the local population, target for this new edition. Indeed, the Bamako Encounters, now recognized at the international level, are interested in making this event a big event for local people.

The new management team, responsible for reorganizing the event, composed of Samuel Sidibe, Malian personality who will embody the change, and Michket Krifa and Laura Serani, female duo responsible for the artistic direction, wanted to make this 2009 event an opportunity to raise Malian awareness of African photography. But they are also hoping that consciousness of cultural diversity will override the geographical or political borders and abolish the inequalities and tensions.

Bamako, the capital of image in Africa ? It is the wish that we make to the new team of the 8th Bamako Ecounters !
